On the Passage (of a Few Persons Through a Rather Brief Moment in Time) is a group show of eighteen young artists from across the country who are currently participating in the New York Studio Residency Program in its final year. The title of the show comes from Guy Debord’s 1959 film of the same name. The film focuses on a small group of thinkers and artists associated with the Situationist movement during the turbulent times of the mid-twentieth century. Like the figures the film focuses on, the artists in this exhibition have theorized and developed many different responses, perspectives, and possible solutions to current discourse on the inevitable intersection of art and politics in an uncertain and tumultuous time in which the fate of many seems to lay in the hands of a few. The artists have spent several months working together and in tangent with each other to create a site for collective action and reaction. Please join us for an exhibition of three and a half months of a multitude of investigations, discourse, and praxis.
