Alumni Feature Fall 2015 – Sean Kennedy

Sean Kennedy – Sean Kennedy (NYSRP ’04) is a multidisciplinary artist who earned his BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 2005. Kennedy went on to spend two years at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt, Germany and in 2010 received his MFA from the University of Southern California. Kennedy has gone on to exhibit his work widely within the US and abroad. His work has also been featured in various publications including The New York Observer, Frieze and X-TRA. Contemporary Arts Quarterly. Currently, Sean has a solo show on view at Rachel Uffner Gallery in NYC entitled, “successpool”, through October 25.

Sean cited the “social aspects” of his NYSRP experience as one of the most integral parts in his development. He said, “While at the NYSRP, I was learning how to manage my time and balance studio labor with the social obligations that come along with living in a city like New York, which are also part of the job. Both come into play in the studio visit, which was central to the structure of the NYSRP. This prepared me for the work ethic I’d need in grad school, which is set up similarly, and gave me a foundation for developing a ‘practice’ beyond that.”
